Ferry from Newcastle to Zeebrugge
From Newcastle you have three ways to reach Zeebrugge, even though no passenger ferry has called there since 2021. The practical one is the overnight DFDS crossing to IJmuiden, then about three hours by road to Zeebrugge or Bruges. Hull to Rotterdam lands you around half an hour closer; Harwich to Hook of Holland is the option if you are happy to drive south first.

In our experience, this is the most enjoyable ferry crossing to the Netherlands. It feels like part of the holiday rather than just transportation and is also popular as a mini-cruise. The only downside is that it leaves you a little farther from Belgium than some of the other routes.
